Tonight at Faith on Tap (And in a Cup)

This weeks discussion question: If we are going to seek to actively disciple ourselves to Jesus, what is that to look like in the 21st Century?

Next weeks (November 13th) discussion will be:  Are the Christian/Jewish God and Allah (of the Muslim Faith) the same? How do we know?

Same place, same time: Common Roots CAFE, Thursday (Oct. 30th)  7:00pm (don’t worry about coming late…the conversation usually goes until 9:00).

Next week,  Thursday November 6th, we’ll be having an  Agape dinner 7:00-9:00 at Lyndale UCC…instead of a discussion. It will be a wonderful celebration of thanksgiving, our fellowship, and being a part of the Body of Christ!

With Thanksgiving, Amy

Faith on Tap (and in a cup) Begins September 18

Thursday Sept. 18th 7:00pm, we’ll begin FAITH ON TAP and in a Cup at Common Roots cafe. Bring your faith questions and topics you would like to talk about. This is a discussion group that is designed for honest searching (with a pint of beer or a cup of coffee in your hand). For 45 minutes/hour we’ll ponder ways to make sense of our faith so that we might discover how to apply our spiritual selves and make meaning of our daily lives. Common Roots CAFE is at 2558 Lyndale Ave. S Minneapolis. www.commonrootscafe.com

Jumper cable volleyball: The hot new game that’s sweeping the nation

Greetings, fellowshippers!

Just a reminder that we’ll once again be meeting at Corcoran Park, 3334 20th Ave. S, Minneapolis, this Thursday, August 14 at 7:00 PM. In the event of rain, we’ll be at the Chatterbox Pub, 2229 E 35th St, Minneapolis.

Those of you who were with us last week know that we had an amazing time, despite - or perhaps because of - our impromptu net constructed of unlikely components (see above).

By the time our high-energy teammates joined us and the ice cream man came by, the game had evolved into a unique concept that bore some slight resemblance to volleyball, but was, I think we can all agree, infinitely more awesome.

We finished out the evening 1980s-style with a few rounds of Duck Hunt/Super Mario Bros. and some cheese curds.

We hope to see lots of you this Thursday, so mark your calendars and be there at 7. Enjoy this fleeting opportunity to spend some time outdoors on a summer evening - there aren’t too many of those left. Hope you’re all having a great week!

Erin

Come Thirsty Events in August and September

Greetings, everyone!

Your friendly Thirsty Thursdays Minister of Propaganda here, nagging you to put certain events of a recreational and spiritually refreshing nature on your calendar so that you don’t miss even a second of the fun. So, without further ado, we’re excited to announce:

Thursdays in August: Volleyball & The Chatterbox at 7:00 PM (note earlier time)

Emulating our wildly successful and all around rockin’ good time July Thursdays featuring kickball and the Bryant-Lake Bowl, Thursdays in August will provide you with a chance to enjoy some time outdoors in our all-too-brief Minnesota summer weather, followed by fellowship and conversation. We’ll begin our evenings at the Corcoran Park volleyball court, 3334 20th Ave S., Minneapolis, at 7:00 PM (we hope the earlier start time will enable those of you with work and other grownup funkillers on Friday mornings to join us). Snacks and pop will be provided. After a friendly volleyball game or two, we’ll move on to the Chatterbox Pub, 2229 E. 35th St., Minneapolis, where we can get down with vintage Atari, original Nintendo, and Sega Genesis video games, an assortment of board games, and of course each other’s charming company. In the event of rain or an already-occupied volleyball court, we’ll go directly to the Chatterbox at 7 PM.

We hope to see lots of you there, carrying on the tradition of good times and hilariously pathetic athletic performance that we’ve established in July. And, as always, bring your friends - the more the merrier!

Looking ahead to September, don’t forget about these upcoming events:

  • Thursday, September 4: Fall Kickoff Dinner Party at Erin’s place (don’t worry; my cooking won’t kill you - probably), 6:00 PM

  • Thursday, September 11: Ministry Team Meeting, Lyndale UCC, 7:00 PM

  • Thursdays beginning September 18: Faith on Tap (Or in a Cup) Discussion Group, Common Roots Cafe, 7:00 PM

Also, be sure to contact Amy (ajwick_2000@yahoo.com) if you’re interested in the Discernment group.

Hope we see you this Thursday, August 7, at Corcoran Park, to get our volleyball off to an inspired start! I myself can only serve underhand (and even that, not particularly well), so if you have skeelz, we seriously need you. Have a great week!

In peace,

Erin Higgins

Thirsty Thursdays Take Off!

For the last few weeks a bunch of 20 and 30 somethings have been coming together to play kickball and fellowship. Thirsty Thursdays have been a success and we are thankful for those who have come to join us and for the many who have prayed for this endeavor.

Below are some pics from the July 10th gathering. Remember, there are still two more Thursdays in July to play some kickball!
